Providence vs. Harvard score update: Crimson score late, lead 1-0 after one period

The No. 4 Harvard Crimson used a late goal from senior Kelsey Romatoski to take a 1-0 lead on the visiting Providence Friars after 20 minutes of play from the Bright Hockey Center in Boston. Despite more than 19 minutes of scoreless hockey, the hosts dominated most of the stanza and finished with a 15-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Romatoski's goal was her second of the season, coming on a power-play with just 40.3 seconds remaining in the stanza. After an assist from sophomore Samantha Reber, the Woodbury, Minn. native fired off a shot from the point that scooted through traffic and past PC junior Nina Riley.

The Crimson defense ranks second in the nation to unanimous top-ranked Minnesota and had a very strong stanza, just allowing the five shots.

Anchoring the unit is senior captain Laura Bellamy, who got the start in goal, for the sixth time this season, over freshman Emerance Maschmeyer in Harvard's third contest of the season against a Hockey East opponent.
