Hockey East roundup: BU knocks off top-ranked New Hampshire in road thriller Thursday

Boston University 3, New Hampshire 2
The visiting Boston University Terriers knocked off their second No. 1-ranked opponent in seven days as they made a Thursday night trek to Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H., posting a massive 3-2 win over host UNH. The Terriers scored the first three goals of the contest, all within 25 minutes, before the Wildcats (which went just 1-for-9 on the power play) posted two in the latter half against stellar rookie stopper Matt O'Connor, who made 31 saves on the night and improved to 7-3-0. Junior Sahir Gill scored a goal and an assist, while senior Wade Megan and freshman Sam Kurker also scored the visiting Terriers as they salvaged final game of the Hockey East season series between the teams and handed UNH its first loss on home ice (and just its second overall) this year. Kurker's second tally of the season at 8:03 of the second period proved to the game-winner, as goals from senior John Henrion and junior Kevin Goumas were not enough. Sophomore Casey DeSmith, who was named Hockey East's November Goaltender of the Month on Tuesday, made 24 saves for UNH. With the victory, BU has a 12-10-5 record at the Whittemore Center since it opened in Durham in 1995. No other Hockey East team has a winning percentage on UNH's home ice. The Terriers return to Agganis Arena on Saturday night for a nationally televised contest with Maine on CBS Sports Network, while the U.S. Under-18 Team pays a visit to New Hampshire for an exhibition game on Sunday afternoon.
