Patriots vs. 49ers: Mario Manningham out for San Francisco

San Francisco's second leading receiver will miss Sunday night's game

Mario Manningham has been declared out by the 49ers for Sunday's game against the Patriots, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN Boston. This will be the second straight game that Manningham misses with a shoulder injury, after missing last Sunday's game against Miami.

After coming over as a free-agent last offseason, Manningham has only played in five games for the 49ers this season. Despite the lack of game action, the Michigan product is second on the team with 41 receptions and third in receiving yards.

Reiss speculates that the loss of Manningham might mean more work for San Francisco's other offseason signing, Randy Moss. The veteran wideout has just 21 catches on the year and two touchdowns, but could be a factor against his former team. Moss played for the Patriots for three and half season before being traded to the Vikings. Another stop in Tennessee and a brief retirement in 2011 has made the last three years of Moss' career volatile at best.
