Northeastern vs. St. Lawrence score update: Saints grab 3-1 lead after two periods

Just as the Northeastern Huskies seemed to have been controlling St. Lawrence senior captain Kyle Flanagan, the nation's leading point scorer entering the night, things changed in the second period as the Saints scored twice in the second period for a 3-1 lead at Matthews Arena.

After a clear 11-5 advantage in shots for SLU in the first period, it came back for a 16-11 lead in the middle stanza (27-16 overall through two periods).

The Huskies took their second penalty of the contest as rookie Dustin Darou went off for interference at 8:40 and the visiting Saints took the lead for the first time in the game just 16 seconds late on the third goal of the season from sophomore Gunnar Hughes, a Westwood, Mass. native and Salisbury School product.

The power-play goal came on an easy open-net rebound after NU senior Bryan Mountain made a great cross-crease save and landed flat on the ice.

Flanagan added to the SLU lead at 13:05 as he took a great between-the-legs pass from sophomore Patrick Doherty for an open goal - his ninth of the season. With an assist on Hughes' goal, he and Carey are currently tied for the national lead with 21 points.
