Ryan Anderson and the Boston College Eagles (1-0) face their first legitimate test of the young season as they will do battle with the No. 16 ranked Baylor Bears (2-0) in the opening round of the Charleston Classic on Thursday afternoon in Charleston, South Carolina.
Boston College won its season opener, 84-70, against the Fla. International Golden Panthers thanks to a career day from Anderson, who had 29 points and 17 rebounds. The Eagles led by as many as 18 points in the first half before allowing the Golden Panthers to come back and tie the game, only to have Anderson and company take control once more in the closing minutes. The Eagles shot 44.8 percent from the field as a unit and out-rebounded the competition, 44-27. Dennis Clifford, Olivier Hanlan and Patrick Heckmann each had 12 points for BC.
Baylor has won its first two contests of the year, posting a 99-77 win over Lehigh and a 78-47 victory over Jackson State. Through two games, Isaiah Austin (22 PPG, but has only played one game) and Cory Jefferson (20 PPG, 10 RPG) have paced the Bears, who have four players averaged double-digit scoring. Pierre Jackson is scoring 19.5 points per game and is averaging 9.5 assists while Taurean Prince is averaging 10.5 points and 6.0 rebounds.
