Boston Celtics legend and current Houston Rockets head coach Kevin McHale has taken a leave of absence from his post in Houston to deal with a family issue, ESPN reports.
One of McHale's daughters became ill, according to Chris Broussard of ESPN. There is no timetable for McHale's return to the Rockets.
Houston general manager Daryl Morey has released the following statement.
"Kevin is a devoted family man who is needed back home in Minnesota at the moment. The Rockets organization will keep Kevin and his family in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
McHale is in his fourth season as a head coach and has a lifetime 75-90 record in 165 games. In two seasons in Houston, McHale has guided the Rockets to a 36-35 mark. Prior to his stint in Houston, McHale served as the head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2004-05 and again in 2008-09.
