Bobby Valentine's tenure with the Boston Red Sox will come to an end almost immediately after the regular season ends, according to a report from Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Valentine, who was hired as the manager of the Red Sox at the start of the season, has underperformed all season long, and Boston enters the final day of the season with a 69-92 record -- 25.0 games out of first place, 24.0 games out of a playoff spot and dead last (fifth) in the AL East.

Valentine will be terminated "soon after" the season ends, Heyman reports, and the move could come as soon as Thursday or Friday. Some of Heyman's sources believe that Valentine will be given the courtesy of a meeting to try to convince the brass to let him stick around, but others said he has no chance.

Ben Cherington, the GM of the Red Sox, did not offer any comment to Heyman.
