UMass vs. Bowling Green final score: Minutemen shutout at home

The Bowling Green Falcons shut down the Massachusetts offense to earn a 24-0 victory on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Bowling Green Falcons spoiled Massachusetts' homecoming, dispatching the Minutemen 24-0 on Saturday afternoon at Gillette Stadium.

Offense was hard to come by for UMass which was shut down by Bowling Green's defense, recording only 119 total yards. The Falcons also forced four turnovers, two interceptions each against UMass' two quarterbacks, including a pick-six by Dwayne Woods for 48 yards.

The Minutemen were unable to get anything going in the passing game, finishing with only 34 passing yards. Quarterback Mike Wegzyn, who was 9-of-25 for 24 yards, was replaced by A.J. Doyle and did not fair any better against the Bowling Green secondary.

Matt Schilz led the Falcons offense with 187 yards on 21-of-34 passing, with touchdown throws in the first and third quarter.

The win moves Bowling Green to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in the MAC. UMass, meanwhile, remains the only winless team in the East, falling to 0-7 overall.

Box Score Hero: Falcons running back Anthon Samuel rushed for 60 yards on 22 carries and also hauled in five catches for 58 yards, including a long 36-yard reception.

But Did They Cover? Bowling Green managed to cover despite being a heavy 19-point favorite.
