Inconsistency has defined the Connecticut Huskies season to date, with UConn altering wins and losses in its first six games of the 2012 campaign. The Huskies are certainly looking to alter that trend, starting with Saturday's game against the Big East rival Temple Owls at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, CT.
The Huskies and Owls are in similar boats, record wise, but Temple won its conference opener while UConn dropped its first Big East game against Rutgers last weekend. The Huskies, doomed by four interceptions from quarterback Chandler Whitmer (191 passing yards in the loss) and five total turnovers, scoring just three points in the 19-3 loss to the Scarlet Knights.
UConn's offense has left a lot to be desired so far this year, as it ranks 112th in the country with 310.5 yards per game. The defense, however, is a different story. Connecticut's defense ranks sixth in the nation in total defense (248.8 yards per game) and eighth in rushing defense (82.33 yards per game). As long as UConn can find a way to get its offense clicking, the defense should do its part and the Huskies can keep most games competitive.
This is the first meeting between UConn and Temple as Big East opponents and the first at Rentschler Field since 2007. Saturday's game marks the 13th meeting between the two schools. Temple holds an 8-4 edge in the all-time series.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET. The game can be seen on ESPN3.com.
