Frozen Fenway 2012: Minutemen Win In Overtime Thriller

It took 64 minutes and 38 seconds, but the UMass Minutemen took home the victory at Fenway Park with an overtime goal from Michael Marcou.

Sophomore Patrick Kiley was sent to the locker room early after earning a game misconduct and a five-minute hitting from behind penalty with 2:43 left to go in the third period. The Minutemen were able to hold Vermont off, and make it to overtime.

Kyle Reynolds started the scoring for Vermont, halfway through the first period. UMass' Eric Filiou was called for boarding, and the Catamounts were able to capitalize on it.

However, just 15 seconds after, Filiou atoned for his mistake and came back and scored, tying the game at one a piece.

The second period brought much of the same action. Just one minute into that period, UMass took hold of the lead and Daniel Hobbs put the puck past netminder Rob Madore, making the score 2-1.

Vermont came back, again via the power play, and once again Sebastian Stalberg offered up the assist, this time to Drew Mackenzie.

Madore made 25 saves in the losing effort, putting his record at 3-12-1. UMass goaltender Jeff Teglia picked up his first win of the season with 24 saves.
