Darryl Partin and Boston University jumped out to a red-hot start hitting their first six shots and grabbing a nine-point lead midway through the stanza, unfortunately Stony Brook dominated the second part of the half. Partin's four 3-pointers and game-high 12 points couldn't overcome a late Seawolves run as Stony Brook holds a 37-33 halftime lead.
Partin connected on his first three 3-pointers before hitting just 1-of-5 shots the rest of the way. He also had to sit for a large portion of the final 10 minutes with two fouls. Forwards Malik Thomas (five points, two rebounds) and Dom Morris (three points in six minutes) also picked up two fouls in the half.
Senior big man Dallis Joyner poured in eight points on 4-of-5 shooting as he and Tommy Brenton controlled the paint. The versatile Brenton had five points and a team-high three rebounds to go along with two steals and two fouls.
Both teams shot over 50 percent for the half but stayed in the game for different reasons. The Terriers could not miss from beyond the arc, hitting 77 percent (7-of-9) 3-point attempts. While Stony Brook grabbed eight offensive rebounds (16 overall) and turned them into 18 points in the paint and 10 free throw attempts. On the other side, Boston University managed just nine rebounds (two offensive) and two free throw attempts.
