Red Sox 0, Rangers 2, Mid 5: Lackey Limits Damage, Sox Strand Runners

The Red Sox and Rangers have each had their chances over the last two innings, but neither has managed to push across a run, leaving the Rangers’ lead at 2-0.

For the Red Sox, a two-out double from Jacoby Ellsbury was wasted when Dustin Pedroia grounded out to end the third, and Carl Crawford just missed one in the fifth, leaving David Ortiz and Darnell McDonald on base.

McDonald, for the record, is in the game now because Conor Jackson exited with a bruised knee, having crashed violently into the wall separating the field from the bullpen in the third.

Meanwhile, John Lackey has worked around a pair of walks in the fourth, and a leadoff bunt in the fifth inning that turned into a double when the Sox starter couldn’t complete the throw to first after cutting off the dribbler.

Halfway through the game and Matt Harrison has a very reasonable pitch count and no runs on the board. Hopefully that changes soon.
