Bruins' Steve Kampfer Out 2-4 Weeks With MCL Sprain

Boston Bruins defenseman Steven Kampfer left the Bruins final pre-season game against the Ottawa Senators after colliding with a Senators player.  The diagnosis came down today and unfortunately for Kampfer the news isn't good.

The team announced today that the injury was a sprain of his MCL and will require at least 2-4 weeks to heal.  The injury comes at a bad time as the team needs to trim its roster to 23 by Monday to be ready for the regular season.  The team will carry 27 players into tomorrows pre-season finale against the New York Islanders in Connecticut.

Kampfer was thought to be battling with Matt Bartkowski for the final defenseman spot on the roster.  He'll now have to rehab the injury in Providence with the AHL affiliate and then try and prove that he is worthy of a call-up to Boston sometime later in the season after injuries have taken their toll.
