Adrian Gonzalez smacked his 27th home run of the season in the sixth inning to extend the Red Sox lead to 4-2 at Fenway Park.
In the top of the sixth John Lackey, who threw over 115 pitches today, allowed a runner to reach third with no outs (thanks in part to a poor attempt by Jason Varitek to throw out the runner at second), but reliever Franklin Morales came in and was able to shut the door on the Jays.
John Lackey is in line for his 13th win of the season today after pitching 5.1 innings and surrendering just two runs on seven hits. Lackey also posted 4 strike outs and lowered his ERA slightly to 6.19.
Alfredo Aceves is preparing to enter the game in the top of the seventh in relief of Morales.
For the Blue Jays, Ricky Romero has thrown six complete innings surrendering 3 unearned runs and striking out three batters.
