Red Sox Vs. Blue Jays: 3-0 Lead Holds After Jon Lester Leaves With Left Lat Strain

The Red Sox have maintained their 3-0 lead through six innings, even after Jon Lester left tonight’s game against the Jays after straining his left latissimus muscle.

A lat strain is the same injury that sent Matt Albers to the disabled list earlier in the year. Albers was reactivated as soon as possible, and has been performing very well ever since, including throwing two scoreless innings tonight in relief of Lester to get the Red Sox through the sixth inning.

Of course, with an injury like this it’s entirely a matter of how severe the strain is. Either way, though, it’s hard to imagine the Sox would let Lester go again before the All-Star break, which likely means another start for Alfredo Aceves, or perhaps a call-up for Felix Doubront or Kyle Weiland.

While the actual game itself seems to have taken a back seat now to Jon Lester, the Blue Jays have broken up the no-hitter attempt on a ground ball single by Jose Bautista in the sixth inning.
