Clay Buchholz Placed On 15-Day Disabled List, Andrew Miller Called Up

Clay Buchholz has been placed on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to June 17 with a lower back strain. Buchholz, who last pitched June 16 against Tampa Bay, is 6-3 with a 3.48 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 14 starts this season.

In a corresponding move, the Red Sox have called up Andrew Miller from AAA-Pawtucket. Miller, who had an opt-out clause if he wasn't called up from AAA by June 15, was 3-3 with a 2.47 ERA, 61 strikeouts and 35 walks in 13 appearances (12 starts). 

Miller is scheduled to start for Boston against the Padres on Monday.

In five seasons, Miller is 15-26 with a career 5.84 ERA and 238 strikeouts in 79 games (54 starts). Miller last pitched for the Florida Marlins, who he spent the last three season with, and posted a 1-5 record with an 8.54 ERA.

Miller's best season came in 2008, when he went 6-10 with a 5.87 ERA and a career-high 89 strikeouts in 29 games (20 starts). Miller has also pitched for the Tigers, going 5-6 with a 5.69 ERA and 62 strikeouts in two seasons in Detroit.
