According to Morosi, the deal is worth "around $30 million," making it comparable to the deal given to Red Sox ace left-hander Jon Lester. Buchholz' deal will ensure he remains in a Red Sox uniform through the 2015 season. Buchholz will make $555,000 this season, which is a base salary.

Buchholz, who threw a no-hitter in his second career start, has a career record of 29-23 and 287 strikeouts in five seasons with the Red Sox. This season, Buchholz is 0-2 with a 7.20 ERA, five strikeouts and five walks.
