It was business as usual for UMass against NJIT. Balanced scoring, pressure defense and a few key runs were more then enough to take care of the Highlanders 79-58.
Javorn Farrell led the Minutemen with 17 points on 6-12 shooting and seven rebounds. Chaz Williams (15), Terrell Vinson (13) and Raphaiel Putney (12) joined Farrell in double figures as UMass improve to 3-0 on the season.
NJIT received a game high 18 points from Isiah Wilkerson but struggled shooting the ball at just 37 percent from the field and 26 percent from behind the arc. While the Highlanders proved more effective than UMass’ first two opponents in handling the ball, they struggled on the boards losing 50-33.
The Minutmen held a slim 31-26 lead over NJIT with 3:40 to go in the first half before going on a 13-2 run to end the half.
