Red Sox Prospect Will Middlebrooks Named To AFL Rising Stars Game

Boston Red Sox prospect Will Middlebrooks has been named to the Arizona Fall League's Rising Stars game. The third baseman is playing for the Scottsdale Scorpions, for whom he is batting .250 with a .300 on-base percentage and a .518 slugging percentage in 13 games. The Arizona Fall League is a yearly post-season league made up of some of the game's best young prospects.

A fifth-round pick in 2007, Middlebrooks batted .302 with an .865 on-base plus slugging percentage in 96 games for Double-A Portland this season. He started the year in Class-A-Advanced and earned another promotion to Triple-A Pawtucket in late August. He struggled in 16 games at Triple-A, batting just .161 with a .200 on-base percentage.

Middlebrooks is expected by some to be the third baseman of the future for the Red Sox, so this distinction is certainly good news for the weary Red Sox faithful.
