Report: Notre Dame To Join Hockey East

The Boston College-Notre Dame rivalry just got a little bit more interesting. The longtime football rivals may now be taking their rivalry to the ice, and they may be doing so in the same conference.

According to reports, Notre Dame plans to join Hockey East, the same conference of the Eagles, along with Boston University, Northeastern, UMass, Harvard and several other local schools. The move would be for the 2013-14 season, and is the only real option left for the Fighting Irish after being excluded from the NCHC.

Notre Dame reportedly was leaning towards joining the more geographically-suitable NCHC, but couldn't come to terms with the conference on any television deal. And supposedly the Irish's NCHC invite came with an expiration date that Notre Dame let slip. (via BC Interruption)

Notre Dame would be the 11th team to join Hockey East, meaning that another school would likely join the Fighting Irish, possibly RPI, UConn, Holy Cross, Bowling Green or Quinnipiac, according to BC Interruption.
