Kevin Youkilis Doesn't Approve Of Alcohol In Clubhouse

Amid the struggles of the Boston Red Sox down the stretch of the season this year, a topic that got a fair amount of press was drinking in the clubhouse by starters who were on their day off.  Fans and media reacted with concern that the players were drinking (while not competing) and some went as far as to claim that it contributed to the clubhouse discord this year.

When asked about it during an interview on Worcester based radio station WAAF, Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis said, "I don’t think it’s the proper way to go about things, but I also don’t think that’s how you win or lose games, and to say that’s the reason why you’re losing games, I don’t think so. But yes, I don’t think that’s the right thing to do."

Youkilis continued:  "That’s something that’s in-house. I don’t even want to talk about it. That’s in-house things that happen, if it did happen. A lot of us position players, we’re so busy playing that we don’t know what’s going on. There’s things that you have no idea what’s going on. You’re so busy playing that you don’t know even half the stuff. And that the funny thing, too. I swear to you, I’m always like the last person to find out things, too."
