Carolina's Joni Pitkanen managed to get another goal on the board for the Hurricanes, putting the puck just over the glove of Tuukka Rask at 10:19 in the second period. But the story of the second period wasn't the score. Instead the emotion that had been missing from all of the other games from the Bruins took front and center.
With 5:41 left in the second period, a scruff between Nathan Horton and Carolina's Jay Harrison escalated into an all out brawl between the first lines. The whistle was blown and the two started shoving each other. However, Chara charged over and took hold of Harrison and was slapped with an instigating penalty, 5-minute fighting major and a game misconduct before all was said and done. Tuukka Rask also joined the fray, skating from his own crease to the other side to have a word with Cam Ward.
He was also nabbed with a 2-minute minor for leaving the crease.
The Bruins finally looked like they had life back in them, but with less than six minutes left in the period, and the majority of that time designated towards fighting off penalties, the Bruins never had a chance to really use that excitement to their advantage.
Joni Pitkanen continued to frustrate the Bruins, putting the puck just over the glove of Tuukka Rask at 10:19 in the second period. That's his second goal of the season--both have been against the Bruins as well.
