Patriots Release Ventrone, Moore Ahead of PUP Activations

The New England Patriots released defensive backs Ross Ventrone and Sterling Moore today after both participated in the teams 20-16 win over the Dallas Cowboys at Gillette Stadium on Sunday. Both are expected to rejoin the team shortly when they clear waivers, though they'll return to the team as members of the practice squad.

The moves would appear to be a prelude to the activation of two players from the physically unable to perform list this week.  The PUP list has players that were injured early in the season but were expected back before the end of the year.

The best candidates to be activated from the PUP list would be veteran running back Kevin Faulk, who is recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered during the 2010 season.

Other candidates would include former Boston College defensive tackle Ron Brace and rookie offensive tackle Marcus Cannon who is covering from chemotherapy for non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
