The New England Patriots now know their opponent for next weekend's Divisional Playoffs. Thanks to a last-minute field goal, the New York Jets have advanced past the Indianapolis Colts in the Wild Card round, and will face the Patriots for the third time this season.
The Jets and Patriots will face each other at Gillette Stadium at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 16.
The Jets, the AFC's sixth and last seed, defeated the Colts 17-16 on a 32-yard Nick Folk field goal as time expired. The second half of the game turned into a kicker's duel, with former Patriot Adam Vinatieri hitting two consecutive field goals (including a 50-yarder) to pull the Colts ahead for a time.
The Patriots split the two regular season games against the Jets this season. In Week 2, the Jets handed the Patriots their first loss of the season at new Meadowlands Stadium, 28-14. The Patriots exacted revenge in a Week 13 Monday night game at Gillette Stadium, shutting down the Jets 45-3.
The Patriots and Jets last met in the playoffs in a 2006 NFL season Wild Card Weekend matchup at Gillette Stadium on Jan. 7, 2007. The Patriots won 37-16 against a Chad Pennington-led Jets squad. Corey Dillon, Daniel Graham, Kevin Faulk and Asante Samuel all had touchdowns for the eventual AFC runner-up Patriots.
