Pitcher Robert Coello has been called up from Triple-A Pawtucket to join the Red Sox for the last month of the season, per a team press release.
Coello is another pick up from the independent circuit, and after Daniel Nava, the second to make the big league team this year.
So far, things have worked out pretty nicely for the converted catcher, as Coello has become a big strikeout pitcher with 130 Ks in just 107 innings so far this year. He’s prone to the walk, though, with 44 in the same period.
While Coello initially struggled following his promotion to Triple-A Pawtucket, since converting to a reliever he has held opponents to just 3 runs in nearly 20 innings.
