Dustin Pedroia Will Reportedly Undergo Surgery On Friday

According to a report by Nick Cafardo in the Boston Globe, Dustin Pedroia is expected to have surgery on his foot on Friday, which would force him to miss the rest of the 2010 season (rehab is approximately three months).

This news isn't terribly surprising -- Pedroia was expected to "shut it down" a week ago. He is currently on the disabled for the second time this season after suffering a "non-displaced fracture of the medial navicular bone" when he fouled a pitch off his left foot against the Giants June 25.

Friday's surgery, to be performed at Massachusetts General Hospital, would insert a screw into his foot. Pedroia met with foot specialist Dr. George Theodore Thursday night in Baltimore.
