Beckett Throws Well, But Red Sox Still Lose To Orioles, 5-2

Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Luke Scott and Felix Pie each hit solo homers to back Brian Matusz's solid performance on the mound, as the Baltimore Orioles held off the Boston Red Sox, 5-2, in the opener of a three-game series at Camden Yards.

Matusz (7-12) gave up two runs on six hits over six-plus innings to pick up his third straight win. The left-hander also struck out six and walked one. Koji Uehara recorded his fifth save.

Adam Jones knocked in a run for the Orioles, who have won four in a row.

Jed Lowrie hit a two-run homer for the Red Sox, who have lost three straight games. Josh Beckett (4-4) went seven frames in the start, allowing three runs -- two earned -- on seven hits to suffer the loss.
