Mark Herzlich, Boston College's linebacker who missed all of the team's summer training camp because of a stress fracture in his right foot, will undergo an MRI on Friday, according to CBS Sports' Dennis Dodd. Assuming everything looks okay, he could be back on the field with the Eagles on Saturday.
"The worst-case scenario is that he comes back and he can’t do very much,’’ said Spaziani, "which means he won’t be ready for the opener. The best-case scenario is that he does everything and he plays a lot.’’
Herzlich sat out the 2009 season while he battled Ewing's Sarcoma cancer, and has not played in a game since December of 2008.
Right now, a best-case scenario for Herzlich is that he "plays a couple of plays against Weber St.," Boston College's opening week opponent on Sept. 4.
