Just 11 days after acquiring him in a trade deadline deal, catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia has been called up from Pawtucket and will join the Boston Red Sox Wednesday in Toronto, this according to the Globe's Amalie Benjamin.
In a corresponding move, Kevin Cash is being sent to the disabled list with a "hamstring injury" and definitely not a ".148 average and just one extra base hit in 20 games."
At the time the Sox got him, Saltalamacchia was described as having issues with the "throwing the ball back to the pitcher" part of catching, so, hopefully he's worked that out. In five games with Pawtucket, Salty is 5-for-21 with three doubles and nine strikeouts.
Tuesday night, he went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
