Imaginary or not, Manny Delcarmen's right forearm strain will cause him to become the latest Red Sox player headed to the 15-day disabled list.
Delcarmen has struggled in the month of June, allowing twelve runs in just eight innings. He's allowed a walk per inning, and two hits per inning in the same period. He has been especially ineffective in his last three outings.
After Wednesday's game -- and an outing in which he allowed five runs to score and didn't record an out -- Delcarmen complained of "something in [his] forearm," adding, "It's been sore for a week. It's been getting better every day, but I'm having trouble getting extension on the ball. I'll see how the day off [Thursday] goes and we'll see on Friday."
Delcarmen had a 1.74 ERA in April and a 1.84 ERA in May, but totaled a 12.96 ERA in June.
No word yet on who the Red Sox will call up to fill his roster spot.
