Report: Doc Rivers Returning To Coach Celtics In 2010-11 Season

Put away your fears of seeing Vinny Del Negro on the bench (at least for now). The Boston Herald is reporting that head coach Doc Rivers is returning to the team for the final year of his contract, this according to "a source close to Rivers."

Rivers has spent the past couple of weeks since the NBA Finals deciding between retiring to spend more time with his family, and staying with Boston for a final season, before reaching his apparent decision on Wednesday.

This news likely means that the Celtics will not be rebuilding this offseason, and instead will make one more run with the core group of players they have now, based on earlier reports that Rivers was inclined to "leave if the team was about to go into a rebuilding phase."

In fact, CelticsBlog has already called it the possible "first critical piece to getting the gang back together again."
