Gustavo Molina's Likely First MLB Assignment: Catching Tim Wakefield

In a move made necessary after Victor Martinez was placed on the 15-day DL on Tuesday, the Red Sox brought up catcher Gustavo Molina from Pawtucket. It's likely that his first assignment will be catching Tim Wakefield's knuckleball in Friday's game against the Orioles. Welcome to the big leagues.

"I caught Charlie Haeger in the minors," said Molina after his stint with Wakefield. "[Wakefield's] got more control. I also think a difference is that Charlie Haeger throws a little bit harder. But Wakefield is one of the best, that's why he's been in this game for a long time.

"It's kind of a challenge. I'll be ready for the next start."

While Molina has some experience catching a knuckleball, the minor leagues and bullpen sessions are slightly different than doing the same in the majors (though, one could argue that difference is barely noticeable with this version of the Orioles). And Molina hasn't played in an MLB game since 2008. So, good luck?
