BOSTON (Sports Network) - Victor Martinez tied a career high with five hits including four doubles, two RBI and two runs scored as Boston took a 9-4 decision over Oakland in the opener of a three-game set from Fenway Park.
Adrian Beltre collected three hits including a three-run homer for the Red Sox, who have won three in a row. Kevin Youkilis was 2-for-4 with an RBI and scored twice, while Bill Hall and J.D. Drew also knocked in runs.
John Lackey (6-3) earned the win despite allowing 12 hits and four runs over six innings.
Daric Barton slugged a two-run homer, with Jack Cust and Mark Ellis adding an RBI each for the Athletics, who had won three of four in Detroit.
Tyson Ross (1-4) took the loss after yielding two runs and walking two without retiring a batter.
