Brad Ausmus, who played 18 years in Major League Baseball as a catcher, will be interviewed for the Boston Red Sox's opening at manager some time next week, according to a tweet by the Boston Globe. During his big league career, Ausmus played for the San Diego Padres, Houston Astros, Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Ausmus has managerial experience, being the current manager of Israel's World Baseball Classic team. Over his playing career, he ranked third all-time in putouts at catcher, trailing only Ivan Rodriguez and Jason Kendall. He had a career .994 fielding percentage, leading the league in that category as a catcher five times. He also led the league once in both put outs and assists.

He hit .251 for his entire career, with 80 home runs and 607 RBI. He was named as an all star in 1999 with the Tigers and was a three-time Gold Glove winner for the Astros.
