The New England Revolution announced on Monday morning that Colombian forward Jose Moreno has been waived. Moreno, 30, made seven appearances for the Revs since he was announced as a loan signing in February, scoring one goal.
Moreno's short tenure in New England was an eventful one. He was announced in early February as a loan signing from Once Caldas, but days later, reports out of South America indicated that he had no intention of heading to New England and would, in fact, stay in Colombia.
It took nearly two months to resolve the saga and for the Revs to get Moreno on the field. Team officials maintained that there was never any doubt as to whether or not Moreno had agreed to the deal, and that they had always intended on letting him finish the month of February with Once Caldas, a caveat that seems unusual in typical transfer dealings.
"Pepe" Moreno's last appearance for New England was on June 16th against Columbus, when he put in a decent shift but was removed after 45 minutes due to an ankle injury. Though listed as healthy, Moreno was not in the 18-man roster for the Revs loss to Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, and in fact had not been included in matchday squads for some time despite being off the injury report.
