It's been reported today in Honduran publications that Los Catrachos striker Jerry Bengtson is on his way to Foxboro for a medical to seal his transfer from Motagua in Honduras to the New England Revolution. Bengtson, 25, would take up an international slot and is widely speculated to be a player that would earn Designated Player money (over $350,000 on the salary cap).
Bengtson is a big, powerful striker who has scored eight goals in 22 appearances for Honduras, including three on American soil in the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup. In Honduras, he was the Liga Nacional leading goalscorer for three seasons in a row, and has scored something in the neighborhood of 62 goals for two different clubs since 2007.
Club representatives have not confirmed or denied the reports, stating only that verbal commitments had been received from two mid-season targets, but no paperwork had as yet changed hands in either case. For further coverage, visit The Bent Musket.
