The MLS announced Tuesday that New England Revolution midfielder Shalrie Joseph has been suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount after "a reckless challenge that endangered the safety of his opponent" during a match with FC Dallas on Thursday, April 5.
Joseph will miss the Revolution's meeting this Saturday with D.C. United at Gillette Stadium.
The punishable offense occurred during the 62nd minute against FC Dallas when Joseph lost the ball and subsequently tackled FC Dallas midfielder Ricardo Villar, bringing Villar down to the field.
The MLS disciplinary committee suspended Jair Benitez, Brandon McDonald and Atiba Harris last week for incidents in Week 4 games and also fined Danny Cruz. Houston's Adam Moffat will also miss a game this weekend after being suspended for a reckless tackle in Week 3, and Colin Clark is serving a three-game ban for using a homophobic slur.
Video of the Joseph incident follows:

Though the match between the New England Revolution and FC Dallas remains scoreless in Frisco, a moment of excitement has come in the 79th minute. Colombian striker Jose "Pepe" Moreno has checked in for his first MLS appearance and his debut with the New England Revolution, replacing Clyde Simms.
Jose Moreno's debut has been a long time coming. It was announced in early February that Moreno would be joining New England from Colombian side Once Caldas on a loan arrangement with an option to buy at the end of the 2012 season. However, just days after his signing was announced, it was reported that Moreno was intent on staying in Colombia, despite assurances from Revolution and Once Caldas officials that all relevant paperwork had been signed.
For a while, no word from Moreno's camp was forthcoming, but the striker did feature again for Once Caldas and reportedly picked up an injury. It was later revealed by New England management that his loan arrangement was always scheduled to start on March 1st anyway, so his absence from preseason camp was never an issue. Even after all issues concerning Moreno's own words were cleared up, his arrival was delayed by visa issues, and Revs fans continually voiced frustrations over the protracted saga.
Just a minute or two after his debut, Moreno announced his presence with a vicious rip from distance that gave Kevin Hartman trouble, perhaps signaling good things to come.

The New England Revolution may have entered this match riding high on confidence, but after 45 minutes of the Fabian Castillo show, the Revs are probably feeling lucky that FC Dallas isn't leading at the break. The Colombian youth international has been eating Florian Lechner for lunch on the right flank, and his blazing speed has caused fits throughout the New England defense.
The Revs' best chances have come from range, with Kelyn Rowe testing Kevin Hartman twice, and Shalrie Joseph uncorking a rare blast from 35 yards out that flashed wide of the post. Dallas, on the other hand, has gone close several times. Blas Perez squandered a wonderful chance when he shot high and wide after Castillo set him up from the byline. Perez later turned provider for Castillo when some good dribbling and interplay freed Castillo in the box, but he shot wide of the far post.
Brek Shea also forced an excellent reaction save from Matt Reis when he took the ball into the box from the left and drilled a low shot. The ball looked destined for net, but couldn't beat Reis's left leg.

Jay Heaps has seen no reason to make any drastic changes to the team that beat Los Angeles 3-1 on the weekend, putting the New England Revolution on the pitch in the same 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 formation seen in Carson on Saturday. The only change is at right-back, where German newcomer Florian Lechner will make his first MLS start in place of the injured Kevin Alston, who was subbed off at halftime this weekend due to a hamstring complaint.
Jose Moreno is once again on the bench, but he stands a much greater chance of seeing time tonight than he did on Saturday, with coach Heaps hinting last week that he plans to get him minutes against Dallas. Darrius Barnes also returns to the bench after a lengthy lay-off due to a calf problem.
For Dallas, some serious shuffling was on the cards after their loss to DC, with both Daniel Hernandez and Jair Benitez serving suspensions. Fabian Castillo returns from injury and will likely pair up with Blas Perez up top, while Carlos Rodriguez enters the starting lineup on the wing as the Hoops look to be trotting out in a 4-4-2 formation similar to that being run by New England.
Lineups
Revolution: Matt Reis; Chris Tierney, A.J. Soares, Stephen McCarthy, Kevin Alston; Lee Nguyen, Shalrie Joseph, Clyde Simms, Kelyn Rowe; Ryan Guy, Saer Sene
Bench: Shuttleworth, Cardenas, White, Moreno, Barnes, Fagundez, Purdie
FC Dallas: Kevin Hartman; Zach Loyd, George John, Ugo Ihemelu, Hernan Pertuz; Carlos Rodriguez, Andrew Jacobson, Ricardo Villar, Brek Shea; Fabian Castillo, Blas Perez
Bench: Seitz, Warshaw, Luna, Guarda, Hedges, Wiedeman, Leyva
