The New England Revolution have bolstered their forward corps by signing Swedish striker Bjorn Runstrom. Runstrom, 28, recently trialed with the Revolution in Arizona, scoring one goal in three appearances.
The New England Revolution announced this morning that they have acquired Swedish target forward Bjorn Runstrom. Runstrom, who most recently played for Hammarby IF in Sweden, featured on trial for the Revs in the Desert Diamond Cup in Tucson this preseason, scoring one goal in three appearances. Runstrom will be added to the roster pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate. Per league and club policies, further details of the contract were not disclosed.
"Bjorn's signing provides us another attacking option and some flexibility on the field," Revolution General Manager Michael Burns said. "He has extensive experience in Europe and he fit in well with our group in Arizona when he was training with us. As soon as all his Visa documents are in order, we look forward to his arrival and integrating him into the team."
Runstrom has had stops in Sweden, Italy, England, and Denmark through a career that is long for his 28 years of age. His best stretch came from 2004-2006, when he scored 18 goals in 57 appearances for Hammarby IF in Sweden. Most recently, Runstrom was back at Hammarby for the third time in his career, but disagreed with new manager Gregg Berhalter and left for greener pastures.
The signing brings the New England Revolution to a full compliment of 28 players, although they may have the option of signing another without a cap penalty because Sainey Nyassi remains on the Injured Reserve.
