Willie McGinest Calls Out Wes Welker And His 'Diva Attitude'

Wes Welker hinted earlier this month that he may hold out from offseason workouts with the New England Patriots unless the team signs him to a longterm deal. The Pats placed the franchise tag on the receiver last month, a move that made him one of the highest players at his position but left his future hazy beyond the upcoming season.

Former Patriots linebacker Willie McGinest didn't take too kindly to Welker's mini protest. On Tuesday he called out the wide receiver, saying he didn't like his "diva attitude" among other things:

"I just don't like the diva attitude," McGinest said. "Let's keep it real: Prior to the Patriots, this is a guy who played three years, had 96 receptions, never had a 1,000-yard season.

"This $9 million-plus that they're offering is half of his last contract. That's a lot of money. Let's not forget that they signed Brandon Lloyd, they signed (Anthony Gonzalez), they signed (Deion) Branch back, they got the two tight ends; they have weapons on that offense. So look, Wes, it's time to take off the leopard-printed cowboys boots, get off the party tour and get back to work."

Welker has yet to sign the franchise tender as he continues talks with the team to get a deal done.
