Patriots Re-Sign Tiquan Underwood

The Patriots made headlines the night before the Super Bowl when they released wide receiver Tiquan Underwood and promoted defensive end Alex Silvestro from the practice squad. Now the team has re-signed Underwood for the 2012 season (via Boston Herald).

Underwood was not released for disciplinary reasons (the pre-Super Bowl release was actually the third time he was released during the season) and would have likely received a ring and bonus money if the Patriots had won the Super Bowl against the Giants. The team decided it needed defensive line depth which was the reason for the release of Underwood.

Underwood was drafted out of Rutgers by the Jaguars in 2009 and was originally signed by the Pats in August 2011. In six game appearances this past season, Underwood made three catches for 30 yards.
