Super Bowl 2012 Aftermath: Josh McDaniels Promoted To Offensive Coordinator, Bill Belichick Confirms

One day after his team dropped a heart-breaking Super Bowl to the New York Giants, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick confirmed Monday that Josh McDaniels will take over Bill O'Brien's role as offensive coordinator in 2012.

After Steve Spagnuolo was fired as head coach of the St. Louis Rams, the Patriots capitalized and hired McDaniels from Spagnuolo's staff as an offensive coach for the team's playoff run. McDaniels coached for the Patriots in a previous stint from 2001-08, which included a run as offensive coordinator from 2006-08. He left after the 2008 season to become Denver Broncos head coach, but was fired 12 games into his second season.

O'Brien is leaving to take over as head coach of Penn State University.
