Super Bowl 2012: 14 Arrested At UMass-Amherst Riots

In response to the Patriots' loss to the Giants in Super Bowl XLVI, many students rioted at the UMass Amherst prompting the police to arrive and disperse the crowd with flashbanks and smoke grenades. The police were expecting the riot as this is not the first time that riots have broken out on campus. They rioted in response to sports related events in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006 and in 2007 and they rioted in response to the news that Osama Bin Laden had been killed in May.

A spokesman from the university told ESPN Boston that 14 have been arrested in response to this latest riot.

A spokesman for the University of Massachusetts in Amherst says 14 people have been arrested after police in riot gear were forced to disperse hundreds of students when the Patriots lost the Super Bowl.

Of the 14 arrested, 13 were students and are now facing posible disciplinary action from the university. According to the spokesman, no property was seriously damaged and nobody was injured.
