Super Bowl XLVI Score Update: Patriots Trail Giants 9-0 After First Quarter

The Patriots started the game off by stopping the Giants at midfield with two sacks on Eli Manning but things took a bad turn when punter Steve Weatherford pinned New England back on their own six-yard line. On the very first offensive play, Tom Brady was hit as threw a ball deep out of his own end zone to no receiver. He was called for intentional grounding and since he was in the end zone, they were charged with a safety.

As if giving up a safety on their first offensive play wasn't enough, the Patriots had to give the ball right back to the Giants and the Giants took advantage of it. On a nine-play drive that started at their own 22-yard line, Eli Manning and the Giants were able to score the game's first touchdown on a two-yard pass from Manning to Victor Cruz.

The Patriots were driving down the field as time ran out in the first quarter, looking to get back into this game before things get out of hand.
