Yesterday, we heard word that while discussions were ongoing between the New England Patriots and Wes Welker, there had yet to be a breakthrough in talks. Now, it appears the Patriots fans shouldn't worry about Welker going anywhere else--at least next season.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Patriots will likely use the franchise tag on Wes Welker. Sources tell Schefter that the Patriots will continue talking to Welker, but they won't hesitate to tag him if there is no deal in place before the March 5 deadline. The franchise tag has an estimated value of $9.5 million for one year.
