Tom Martinez, Mentor Of Patriots' QB Tom Brady, Reportedly Dies At 66

Tom Martinez, the mentor of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, has reportedly died at the age of 66 on Tuesday. Martinez, who lived to his 66th birthday on Tuesday, died of complications from diabetes and cancer. Martinez announced that he was given one month to live on June 12, 2011. Martinez continued to fight and battled for months.

Martinez served as the head coach of the College of San Mateo football team, a position he held until 2005, when he stepped down due to health complications. Legendary coaches such as Bill Walsh and John Madden have also coached at the College of San Mateo.

Every offseason, Martinez would help Brady work on his mechanics. He also helped JaMarcus Russell prior to the 2007 NFL Draft, but he blamed the Oakland Raiders for ruining him. In his youth, he also helped John Elway.
