The hottest topic at the Super Bowl 2012 Media Day, at least, from the New England Patriots standpoint was the ankle injury to tight end Rob Gronkowski, who fielded question after question about a small portion of his very large 6-foot-6, 265-pound body Tuesday. Gronkowski answered questions on the ankle that was for the first time in days not being protected by a walking boot.
"I’m not really worried about if I’m not playing or not yet. That’s on Sunday," said Gronkowsk, who's hopeful to face the New York Giants in Super Bowl 2012, which will be held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, IN (6:30 p.m. ET on NBC).
"The only thing I’m worried about is Tuesday. Just keep on moving forward, going in a positive direction, and that’s all that counts."
According to The New York Post's Justin Terranova, Gronkowski was asked about his current status a lot and answered with "day-to-day" about 10 times. Terranova said when Gronkowski was asked if he could play yet, the tight end answered:
"I don't know yet. I'm doing everything I can to help the team. I'm getting better every single day."
When asked about his chances of playing Sunday, Gronk said:
"[The game is] six days away," Gronkowski said. "I could be 100 percent by then. I could be 2 percent by then. We’re just taking it day by day.
"I’m young. I’m healthy, and I feel blessed like that. Whatever it is, I hope I’m a quick healer."
Gronkowski, who set single-season tight end records in 2011 for touchdowns (17) and receiving yards (1,327), sustained the ankle injury in the win over the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC Championship Game.
