Malcolm Williams Released By Patriots

The New England Patriots announced today that they released defensive back Malcolm Williams (via Patriots.com). Williams was drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round (219th overall pick) of the 2011 NFL Draft. He was primarily a special teams player in his college days at Texas Christian University. The Patriots also selected Williams' college teammate, offensive tackle Marcus Cannon, in the 2011 Draft.

Before his most recent release today, Williams was released on Aug. 29 and then made his way on to the practice squad for New England on two occasions this season. He was signed to the 53-man roster from the practice squad on Dec. 10 and played on special teams against the Washington Redskins on Dec. 11.

The 5-11, 200-pound rookie cornerback from TCU did not record any stats during his appearance against Washington, which was his only game action of the 2011 season.
