New England Patriots Rob Gronkowski official broke the NFL single-season record for touchdown receptions by a tight end Sunday, as Gronkowski caught a 11-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tom Brady in the second quarter of the Pats' Week 14 contest against the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field in Landover, MD. The original record for a tight end (13) was set by San Diego Charger tight end Anotnio Gates in 2004.
Gronkowski's catch helped New England take a 14-3 lead over the Redskins. Gronkowski, who last week broke the single-season, all-purpose touchdown record with a running score, capped a two-play, 60-yard drive that was highlighted by a Gronkowski 49-yard reception that came on the drive's first play.
