Boston College overcame a strong Ferris State push to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission of the NCAA Men's Hockey Championship.

Boston College faced the most pressure they have this post-season in the first period of their NCAA championship game against Ferris State. Despite the challenge, the Eagles take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

The Eagles took advantage of a Ferris State turnover just three minutes into the game to net their first goal. Steven Whitney hustled past a Ferris State player to take a Barry Almeida pass and sneak it past the right side of goalie Taylor Nelson. Whitney's fifteenth goal of the season put Boston College up 1-0.

Ferris State answered almost exactly two minutes later. Ferris State began playing Boston College's game, pressuring in the Eagles' zone. Travis Ouellette snuck the puck past Eagles' goalie Parker Milner's left skate to even the score for the Bulldogs, 1-1.

Five minutes later, while on Boston College's first power play of the evening, Brian Dumoulin made a shot meant to merely get the puck into the Bulldogs' zone, but Paul Carey tipped the shot into the net to score. The goal put the Eagles ahead, 2-1.

Milner was the clear star of most of the first period, with several stellar, sprawled out saves on excellent Ferris State chances. He finished the first frame with six saves. Nelson also has six saves for Ferris State after twenty minutes of play.
