UConn Huskies men's basketball fans will not get the joys of watching their team play in the NCAA Tournament in 2013, however, there will be something to look forward to. On Tuesday, ESPN.com's Andy Katz reported UConn will open-up the '12 college basketball season with the Michigan St. Spartans when both will play each other overseas at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
The game is expected to played on Nov. 9 and late in the evening local time, which would allow fans on the East Coast to watch the game in the early morning.
"With so many of our (servicemen and women) coming from the war front, it's appropriate for our kids to honor them,'' said UConn basketball coach Jim Calhoun. "This is a great thing for us and for the kids, especially on Veterans Day.''
This news comes about a month after UConn announced it would be playing Wake Forest in the first round of the 2012 Virgin Islands Paradise Jam. The Huskies are seeded No. 2 in the single-elimination tournament.
